Hideaway Farmlet Miniature Goat Stud
Description
Step back in time whilst staying at our Historic English Cottage Farmlet built in 1948. Our Miniature Goat Stud is located in Penguin, a picturesque quiet coastal town situated on the edge of the mighty Bass Strait in North West Tasmania.
The Farmlet is nestled on top of a hill set amongst English gardens, Blackwoods, Blue Gums and wild birds. From here you can enjoy your coffee and watch the Australian Miniature Goats. It is the perfect place to unwind and immerse yourself in the charm and beauty of the changing seasons on the farm.
Farmers Brad and Lisa, as well as breeding Australian Miniature Goats are advocates of simple living, regenerative land practices and chemical free growing. They are certified permaculturalists and also offer a ‘Miniature Goats Up Close And Cuddly’ experience where you can meet the ‘Minis’, learn all about them and life on the farm.
The cottage welcomes interested farm stay travellers as well as those in need of a private get away. Hear the dawn chorus as you wake and ponder your plans for the day. Watch the baby goats and lambs frolic whilst you sip your coffee. Feel cosy and warm as rain rolls in across the hillside. Pack a picnic, hike a mountain, explore the rock pools in town at low tide, roll a dice, play cards or simply watch films in bed – it’s all yours for the taking. But before you call it a night, don’t miss your chance to view the Milky Way like you’ve never seen it before!
Kitchen/cooking facilities include a small outdoor bbq, a microwave convection oven, a toaster and sandwich maker, kettle, fridge/freezer and crockery. We provide a basic breakfast for our guests which includes homemade organic muesli, organic oats, coffee, various teas, local full cream milk, local bread, juice and fruit. Any available produce in harvest will be provided to guests to sample. Our seasonal preserves are also available to purchase along with some craft items that our family enjoys making.
Farm Tour – Miniature Goats Up Close And Cuddly (Optional Tour additional cost): 90 minute Sunset sessions or 60 minute sessions are available.
Experience getting up close and personal with our herd of registered and friendly Australian Miniature Goats. We’ll introduce you to their personalities and preferences and in no time you’ll be finding a way to bring one home!
You’ll learn all about caring for and living with miniature goats. You’ll be able to groom, pat and cuddle the ‘Minis’ as we pass through each paddock. They will make you laugh and smile and are super curious. During the experience you will encounter our free ranging chickens and pass our small herd of Wiltshire Horn sheep.
We’ll share with you our story of how we ended up living with a menagerie of animals and wildlife. We’ll explain how we create balance through applied permaculture design and regenerative farming practices.
At the conclusion of the experience you will be able to share a cuppa with us or spend time with your favourite ‘Mini’ (we promise not to be offended). All Sunset Sessions include farm produce tasting with local wine and cheese.
If wet weather is forecast then the event will be cancelled with a refund issued. We will confirm as early as possible.
