Cattle Yards McKeown’s Rest

Description

250 acre cattle farm situated in the rugged setting of the scenic Blue Mountains, just two and a half hours drive from Sydney. We are a short distance from the Jenolan Caves , Kanangara-Boyd National Park, Oberon and Mayfield Garden. Our farming family has been associated with the Jenolan Caves since they were first discovered in the 1880s, with four generations having worked at the caves over various times.

We have numerous animals here at the farm including miniature goats and sheep, alpacas, geese, ducks, turkeys, peacocks and guinea fowl. A real menagerie! While not staying at the farm house campers are welcome to visit the farm animals. Please be mindful of privacy and don’t walk around the actual farm house gardens.

We have rolling green hills, sweeping views and spectacular sunrises/sunsets. We offer 4 off-grid campsites on level, grassed areas, where you can get a great vantage point of the farm views. We welcome self-contained campers only, to enjoy peace and privacy, in what is a perfect farm stay getaway all whilst exploring the Greater Blue Mountians World Heritage Area.

We recommend campers to bring their own drinking water and if you run out we can assist you.

We have no toilets and require campers to be self contained with a toilet in vehicle or camping toilet. We have no sewage dump onsite.

We have no showers available for campers and you may access dam water to heat if using heat exchange systems etc.

Campers to take all rubbish with them or they may bring rubbish to the house and place in green bins near conifer hedge

Pets are welcome and we request they are kept on a lead at all times.

We have a firepit for your campfire, and provide firewood free of charge, you just need to collect it yourself.

The Local Community: Oberon is a small community of 3000 residents. It is in the Central Tablelands region of NSW. Our main industries are farming, forestry and wood products. Kenzell Farm is over 1200m and Mckeowns Rest is the name the accommodation for the luxury farm house. We are on the fringe of the Greater Blue Mountains and enjoy four distinct seasons. Our elevation is 1113m so we experience snow falls in winter. The district is surrounded by pine forest and wilderness, making it ideal for campers and adventurers.
The Farmers Note: Sharing experiences with my guests. I see it as a privilege to be able to give people glimpses of what its is like to grow upon a farm. It is also fantastic to have opportunities to explain where our food comes from and what is involved in getting it from paddock to plate. The other side is seeing the sheer joy on faces when they are able see, hold, touch and brush the farm animals. We have also had very lucky guests witness farm animal births.
Things To Do: Time at the property can be spent inside relaxing in the spacious living areas whether it be playing games or reading a book. There is an indoor pool for people to enjoy also. 250 acres makes for plenty of space to go for walks and take in the stunning views of the Blue Mountains escarpment or the magical creek that flows through the farm. During your stay we have a multitude of hands on farm experiences for guests to enjoy including spending time with the alpacas, camels, wombats and collecting newly laid eggs by the chickens! Cattle, calves and lambs all make up the exciting mix of opportunities to enjoy a working farm stay in a beautiful open environment surrounded by rolling hills. We offer everything from 4wd tracks, mountain bike trails, bushwalking, foraging for mushrooms, fishing, horse riding and farm tours.
