‘Seahorse Cabin’ At Wattle Bank Farm

Description

‘Seahorse Cabin’ is located on idyllic ‘Wattle Bank Farm’ – known for its Grow, Play and Stay activities. It is only 8 minutes to the glorious Inverloch beaches and the wonderful wildlife walks in the Wonthaggi Heathlands. Wilson’s Promontory is just 1.5 hrs away.

It is sustainable farm that grows gourmet oyster mushrooms for local and Melbourne restaurants and also has a permaculture garden from which you can forage from. You can book in for a farm tour or a natural horsemanship experience with Australian adventurer Peter Bland and his wife Beatrice.

The 1970’s 10 metre long caravan has been repurposed to provide an ideal getaway for a couple or family with young children.

The tiny home is appointed with a separate master bed room with a Queen Bed, 3 Japanese style bunk beds off the lounge room, a bathroom and a fully equipped kitchen. It also has a beautiful indoor wood heater.

During your stay you can choose to be completely self sufficient or order a curated hamper showcasing local Gippsland producers. Access to the gardens can be arranged for guests to select additional seasonal greens and citrus. Maybe you might like to pre-order some mushrooms for breakfast!

The outdoor area includes a fire pit complete with hammock under the old spreading tree and is the perfect environment to unwind or dine in warmer months. You can cook indoors or in a camp oven in the fire pit or the BBQ. There is plenty of space for little ones to run outside or they can play on the tyre swing.

We love creating experiences for our guests so if there is any special occasions that you are celebrating, let us know in advance and we will help you curate a magical experience for your loved ones.

Pets are welcome but we ask that you kindly let us know a bit about them when booking. Please note that we live on the property with our horses, chooks, dogs and a cat.

The Local Community: We like to call Wattle Bank a small ‘hamlet’ wedged between the ocean and the countryside. Our farm is located on Bunurong land - Bass Coast 1hr and 50 minutes from Melbourne. Made up of pastoral lands, local producers, cheese makers and wine makers, you are surrounded by the famous green rolling hills of Gippsland and 25 minutes from Philip Island.
The Farmers Note: Peter and I absolutely love providing an immersive experience of our farm with our guests - from a personalised welcome to an introduction or experience with the horses, foraging and picking mushrooms, showing guests what’s growing in the garden and sharing this with them, stopping for a yarn in the farm shop. Alternatively, if you like total privacy, you are completely separate to the main property. We are always available if you have any questions and we enjoy sharing the best outings and produce from our local area.
Things To Do: ⦁ Have a wander, put on some wellies, go and sit with the horses or book a horse adventure or farm tour - no experience required! ⦁ Take a glass of wine to the dam or to the veggie garden whilst you are foraging for dinner ⦁ Switch off, leave the electronics at home and reconnect with nature, toast some marshmallows on the open fire or make a roast or cook up some potatoes in the camp oven. Good book, games, salute of the sun on yoga mat provided. If you must really leave, then a walk and swim at the beach then head straight back to the hammock.
Places To Explore: Surf, Turf & Rest Wonthaggi Heathland and Coastal Reserve Wonthaggi Heathlands - Only 10 minutes away is the gorgeous Baxters bush walk in the Wonthaggi Heathland, amazing bushland reminiscent of Wilson’s Prom, heavily wooded areas on sandy paths leading directly to the ocean. It is a longer walk so pack a snack, a blanket, swimmers and sunscreen- a perfect quiet getaway for a family or couple and dog friendly. ⦁ Screw Creek Townsend Bluff Estuary Walk - A more gentle walk in Inverloch which has an amazing lookout on the whole of the town. You will walk past Screw Creek and dip your toes in the ocean. This is definitely a walk which can be done with ease before or after breakfast in town with coffee in hand. ⦁ The Great Southern Rail Trail - is a stunning coastal walk kicking off from Kilcunda and you can go right through to the island. Bike, walk or horse ride. Kick off or end at the Kilcunda General Store for brunch or lunch or a pint at the pub with a game of pool. Either way the outlook is wild and sensational. Stock up at Udder and Hoe on local produce. ⦁ The coastal road from Inverloch through to Cape Patterson has amazing beaches if you are looking for quieter getaways, snorkelling or quiet relaxation. The surf is superb with dozens of beaches to choose from including: ⦁ Eagle’s Nest, The Caves, The Oaks and of course Cape Patterson ⦁ Cape Patterson is our family favourite. The beach is wild and beautiful, The rock pools provide hours of fun as well, no matter the conditions and seasons. Zeal and Flow make the best coffee, fresh croissants and pizzas from Trulli - known for their exceptional pizzas including one named after us - The Wattle Bank Farm funghi pizza ⦁ Phillip Island is 20 minutes to San Remo and 1 hour to Cowes. Phillip Island Winery is our recommendation but the island is full of options for the whole family from nature parks, surfing, penguins, to eating out and helicopter trips Restaurants and Coffee Shops ⦁ The Channel Store in Cape Paterson. Freshly hand cut and cooked chips, incredible fish including grilled salmon and barramundi and the burgers are exceptional- eat in or take away at the beach but be ready for a wait in busy season- a local tip, order early with your pick up time ⦁ Pandesal Bakery, Meeniyan - fresh baguettes, pies and cakes, can’t now wrong there ⦁ Meeniyan Fish & Chips ⦁ Meeniyan Pantry - local Italian artisan breads, croissants salamis, cheeses and everything you need for a care free hamper ⦁ Moo’s, Meeniyan - run by Marty - is our place for a cocktail or dinner out, breakfast is also delightful. They stock our mushrooms and change the menu according to seasons Places near Wattlebank Farm ⦁ Harman Wines in Wattle Bank (next door to us is) - great wood fired pizzas and wines and live music. Can also order and have it on deck of cabin watching the sunset ⦁ Award winning Prom Country Cheese is about 8 minutes from us - do a tasting or simply stock up on their incredible choice of cheeses ⦁ Inverloch 15 mins from us has a large variety of eating venues including: ⦁ Bluette Cafe corner of Bear and McIntosh Street in Inverloch - off the beaten track, frequented by locals, you’d never find it as it is in the industrial area. Open mainly during the day and one evening per week ⦁ The Local on the main street - great coffee, simple take away, grab and go for a walk on beach ⦁ The Invy Cafe Al Mare - Great Gelato ⦁ Dirty Three Wines - groove, fab wines paired with great tapas style food, also live music. Closes at 5pm, perfect end of day stop ⦁ The Inlet and The Inverloch Esplanade - great pub meals with outdoor seating ⦁ Pearl, Tomo's Japanese or Radius at the RACV resort- more upmarket dining. Bookings for dinner are almost essential and kitchens do close early outside of seasons ⦁ The Loch Grocer and Olive - couple of nice cafes, , a great stop over from Melbourne on the way in or out Fresh local produce ⦁ Goshen Country Cape Patterson - Open Thursdays, Sundays and Mondays- fruit, vegetables, organic and some flowers ⦁ Flock, Stock and Basil - seasonal vegetable, honey, meat and chicken all grown regeneratively ⦁ Chapman’s Butchery - Inverloch - meat, chicken, fresh seafood from East Gippsland ⦁ Beautiful ciders from Gurney’s cider and wines from local wineries ⦁ The Natural Distilling Co, gin distillery in Loch is great to stock up too. 20 minutes from us General shopping ⦁ Wonthaggi has a Coles, Woolworths, Aldi, Kmart and Big W. Chemists in Wonthaggi and Inverloch. FoodWorks in Inverloch

PETS
⦁ Please note that pets are welcome on our farm and in our region.
⦁ There are many dog friendly facilities near us and a map is located in the cabin ⦁ Contact us to discuss first as owing to the horses, pets will need to be on a leash around the property. Kindly bring their own bedding so they don't sleep on the beds. OFF GRID
This off-grid experience operates on 12 volt and solar panels and has a compostable toilet. There are ample outlets to recharge your phones but we encourage you to leave behind the rest of the gadgets! Items such as hairdryers do pull a lot of power and we request not to use this during your stay. On cloudy days or in winter when we have less sunlight, we recommend the power is switched off during the day. There is a main switch at the front which turns off all power in one go Indoor and outdoor games are available as well as yoga mats and some day beds complete with rugs. You will find these under the bed. In winter months ensure to dress warm for your own comfort, warm wooly comforters, additional blankets and hot water bottles are included in the cabin.
We recommend boots or gum boots in the middle of winter especially if you are going to horse ride or walk the paddocks.
We have a beautiful indoor wood heater for winter and those cool Victorian nights. In summer, throw open all the windows front and back and the cool air breezes through. Flyscreens keep those mozzies away.
The caravan is surrounded by a small garden complete with sun loungers and a hammock perfect to take in a great evening sunset overlooking the rolling hills of South Gippsland.
