Shalimar Farm Stay

Description

Set within a beautiful rainforest valley near Mullumbimby and the beaches of Brunswick Heads and Byron, this timber roundhouse style yurt offers a unique, circular self-contained guest space within our organic permaculture farm called Midgard Mountain.

The Wilsons Creek valley is filled with freshwater creeks, swimming holes, waterfalls, national parks and is a short ten-minute drive from Mullumbimby and central to beaches, villages, Byron and other attractions.

This large rural landscape is a mix of vast open mountain plateaus with panoramic views surrounded by sub tropical rainforest and a national park boundary.

Fresh, pristine mountain spring water from the rainforest is used for drinking, bathing and growing food and we have a mix of vegetable gardens, fruit trees, orchards, goats, sheep, cows, chickens and self-reliance / permaculture systems which are spread out across the landscape.

The Shalimar has a large central, circular room with a timber ceiling, queen beds and a layout detailed below. All beds are in this one space without seperate bedrooms. Adjoining this large room is a small self contained kitchen with a sitting/dining area attached and a large timber deck overlooking the mountain and forest.

The internal bathroom space has a dry composting toilet and there is a nice outdoor tropical style shower with hot water on the deck, one step from the door offering full privacy but with views from the shower up to the mountain and rainforests.

BRINGING YOUR DOG TO MIDGARD MOUNTAIN

We love visits from furry friends, however we have a few conditions about bringing dogs along.

In regard to your request to bring a dog/s, because we are a farm with various animals that are not farmed themselves but work with us to keep grass down, provide eggs etc and because not all dogs are identical, we just have to evaluate each request on a case by case basis.

We have chickens, sheep, lambs, goats and cows all in various areas. Mostly behind fencing with the odd chicken sometimes free-ranging around for which we can contain if and when necessary.

Main conditions with dogs are:-

1. Any dogs likely to be overly excited, curious, aggressive or likely to jump over fences, bust in and be in a chasing and hunting mode are not suited or compatible to a farm like this.

2. There are no contained fencing or borders around the accommodation so supervision is needed and assuming they wont run off far and cause problems for other guests, residents, animals etc, they are fine off the lead.

There are also plenty of paddocks and areas to have a good run off the lead and nearby areas including swimming holes and creeks not in National Parks to take dogs to explore. And Brunswick Heads our nearest beach has a great dog off lead area to enjoy the coastline and let dogs meet other dogs. As does Belongil Beach and Suffolk Park beach near Byron.

3. We ask that during spring and summer, animals be free of fleas and treated in some way as importation has happened before generating problems. Keep in mind too as pet owners, this is a tick area with rare paralysis ticks in some isolated places usually away from accommodation space. Ticks peak often in spring between 25 and 30 degree temps, often just after any rain which can be less likely in spring which is a dry period.

Ticks are less common and sometimes zero risk on open grassy areas, paddocks, around accommodation and driveways with a higher risk on edges of forest and scrubby areas. Best strategy is a good check each night after walking in higher risk areas and weather conditions. But from our observations over the years, 95% of any ticks found are scrub / dog ticks.

4. We ask owners not allow animals onto beds and furniture and be conscious about shedding hair and fur and a vacuum is supplied.

5. Because of previous constant barking noise issues for hours when left alone, we ask owners not leave dogs alone for long periods as this can disturb us, other guests and neighbours. A short period may be OK.

With all these considerations met, we are happy for you to bring your furry friends along. We do charge $35 fur child fee.

Thank you and look forward to welcoming you to Midgard Mountain.
