At Farmer Stays, we understand the importance of sustainability. Our team is committed to reducing negative impacts and developing positive impacts for the environment and community.
By championing sustainable agritourism, Farmer Stays helps travelers make a positive impact while discovering the rich landscapes and stories of Australia’s regional and rural farming communities.
We embody our values by aligning our business practices with sustainability and responsible operations. Through thoughtful decision-making, accountability and ongoing improvement, we aim to minimise our impact while setting a meaningful standard for our industry, tourism partners and the communities in which we operate.
We actively partner with tourism operators who have achieved nationally or internationally recognised sustainable tourism accreditation, or those who are actively committed to ongoing improvement of sustainable practices across tourism and agriculture operations.
We are committed to collaborating with and learning from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. By integrating cultural respect and traditional knowledge into our sustainability practices, we honor, protect and embrace Australia’s rich Indigenous heritage.
We advocate for tourism operators to undertake sustainable tourism accreditation and adopt sustainable practices that promote positive business, environmental, social, and cultural impacts through providing resources and tips.
We highlight and provide a promotional pathway for agritourism operators undertaking biodiversity conservation, protection of native flora and fauna, and projects that maintain healthy ecosystems.
By working with farms that prioritise sustainable or regenerative agriculture, we support efforts to improve soil health, conserve water, and reduce carbon emissions.
Farmer Stays prioritises the partnership with farmers and agritourism operators who actively showcase local produce and collaborate with local businesses in their region, contributing to the economic sustainability of regional and rural areas in Australia and the reduction of transport emissions.
Through our platform, we inspire sustainable agritourism by sharing stories and resources that promote eco-conscious travel.
We prioritise working with local businesses and stakeholders who are actively involved in supporting sustainability initiatives.
We’re committed to carbon footprint reduction and established a carbon emissions tracking base year in 2024 and records new data quarterly.
The Farmer Stays office is filled with natural light and ventilation. Our energy source is 100% renewable energy from Snowy Hydro provided by Red Energy who is 100% Australian owned and operated.
The Farmer Stays office building collects rain water to maintain gardens and uses water restrictors in tapware. Gardens are mulched regularly to conserve water and include a vegetable garden and native plants.
The Farmer Stays office creates minimal landfill through the use of recycling, compositing green waste, bread tags are donated to the local kindergarten to be reused to make wheelchairs and food scraps are provided to the on-site chickens.
Our website highlights the tree-planting and habitat restoration efforts of our host farmers, showcasing measurable contributions to biodiversity and climate change mitigation.
We’re actively seeking partnership with First Nations owned tourism and agricultural ventures to showcase indigenous knowledge and native ingredients.
We are dedicated to not selling merchandise derived from Indigenous heritage artefacts or culturally significant items. We also advocate for our customers to avoid purchasing such items from other sources, ensuring respect and preservation of these invaluable cultural treasures.
